Prairie & Lathem Park is adjacent to the Louise White Elementary School and serves as a community park in the Batavia Park District system. The redevelopment of the park was made possible by a matching grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources through the Open Space Land Acquisition and Development program. With the success of the grant application, the redevelopment of the site included resurfacing the parking lot and tennis courts with a stone slip, creating a deeper outfield for the large softball field, regrading the small baseball field, new play equipment for both playgrounds, resurfacing the basketball courts and the introduction of native planting and bioswales with interpretive signage for educational purposes. The path system was lengthened and relocated to accommodate the deeper outfield on the softball field and to provide critical pedestrian links to the west.
