What does it take to give an old park new life? Faced with an aging community park that no longer served the needs of the neighborhood the Batavia Park District embarked upon a two phase renovation of Big Woods Park. Big Woods Park is a community park constructed in the early 1980's. The complete park renovation at Big Woods Park was separated into two phases with Laflin Design Group, ltd. leading the design team from Schematic Master Planning through Contract Administration of both phases. Phase I included construction of a larger picnic shelter, repaving of the existing tennis courts with the addition of one new tennis court, regrading of all playing fields and the expansion of the play area with all new play equipment. Phase II provided additional parking, stormwater detention, leveling and reconstruction of the basketball court and clearing of wooded areas to provide construction of a walking path.
